Dear Investors,
It is the time of the year to plan for the coming year 2008. Many of us are setting goals and making resolutions. Some of the goals and resolutions may be brought forward from 2007.
Yes we may have missed out on some of the targets and resolutions set this year. As long as we have given our best to try to achieve these goals we have every right to feel proud of ourselves. Congratulations on those goals that you have achieved.
Setting investment target is another goal you can make for the coming year. Try to put aside a sum of money for investment throughout 2008. Make an effort to put the money aside in an investment that can give you good return. What are investments? Investments are tools or vehicles that you can use to bring about good returns in the coming years. Most of the time investments take a longer time to bear fruits. Some takes three years, others five to ten years. Take property or unit trust funds for example. You do not expect to make great returns within a year. If you do then you are not investing but speculating. Some may even consider speculation as gambling.
The investments you have made in Public Mutual funds are for medium to long term. You can expect good returns within this period. Investments in unit trust have a proven track record. As can be seen in develop countries, most of the retirement funds are invested through unit trust (mutual funds) managed by capable fund managers. Public Mutual and their professional fund managers have a proven track record; winning many fund awards year after year. So you have made a right choice investing with Public Mutual.
In addition, as your agent, I am committed to closely monitor all your investments and give appropriate and timely information so that you can make the necessary decision to benefit from the dynamic investment environment. Through timely switching and strategic asset allocation you maximize your unit trust returns.
Over time the market will always go up but some short term trend reversal creates great opportunity for an investor like you. Do not let fear overcome you. It has been proven over again and again that this is the best opportunity to put in more investments to benefit from the dips. Remember the Asian Financial Crisis, the bird flu, Tsunami disaster in Asia,
Going forward, 2008 will be a challenging year for investments. Market will be volatile. However taking a longer term view, the risk is mitigated. I strongly advise that you do not loose sight of your long term goals, like funding your retirement and children education needs. You should continue to put aside money for your unit trust investment as this is a proven vehicle to grow your funds for your long term goals. Have a regular investment plan. Some investors put aside money and invest on a monthly basis. Others choose to invest on a quarterly basis. Both of these regular investment plans benefits from the ‘dollar cost averaging’ concept.
The year 2008 will also see greater changes in the unit trust industry for the benefit of the investors. Service charges will be lowered. This is a gift from the unit trust industry. With lower service charges, more of your money can be invested. This will result in better returns on your investment. EPF will also be making changes so that more money can be channeled to higher yielding unit trust investment.
Personally, my goals for 2008 will be to assist my investors to make more money by staying vigilant and closely monitoring the market and my clients’ investment. I would also like to help more people to achieve their investment goals. In this respect I will welcome your referrals of family members and friends, should they like to invest in Public Mutual unit trust funds. I would like to thank those of you that have made referrals to me in 2007.
